Kaikoura 6634

Kaikoura 6634

Dawn, Kaikoura Peninsula on the east coast of the South Island. There is a beautiful walk around the peninisula, with lots of marine life.

The Kaikoura coast has a very deep trench offshore, from memory depths of 2000 - 3000 metres are found only 1 km from the shore. Cold currents bring an upwelling of nutrients, so the region is teeming with marine life. Birds, lots of "charismatic megafauna" (i.e. whales and dolphins), and good fishing.
